The Roeper School

In Loving Memory of Mariann Hoag

Born November 26, 1926; Died July 6, 2009. Beloved “Grandmother” to an entire school, Mariann spent 61 years taking care of the Roeper community. After fighting off four bouts of cancer, she slipped peacefully away. In her own Mariann-way, she organized, took control and worried about others until the end. As Head of the Financial Aid Committee and the Alumni Relations Advisory Group, she held meetings on her sick bed until the end.

Graduating from Detroit Northern High School in 1944 and from Albion College (Alpha Chi Omega), in 1948, the following year Mariann Hoag became George Roeper’s Administrative Assistant, for The Roeper School, Bloomfield Hills, MI, which means she took care of everything.

Mariann lived by the words of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore:

I slept and dreamt that life was joy.

I awoke and saw that life was service.

I acted and behold, service was joy.

Thank you Mariann, for taking care of us so well, for so long. We promise to take care of each other like you taught us. For now, Roeper grieves.

A Memorial Service for Mariann Hoag was held on Saturday, August 22, 2009.
