ROEPER SUMMER CLAY camp 2015
Roeper Specialty Camps are unavailable for the 2016 camp season due to construction on our Birmingham campus. These programs will continue to run for our 2017 camp season.
Clay is an exciting and magical material. During the two week session, students will learn about the art and craft of clay while having fun and exploring their creativity. Roeper Clay Camp is a unique pottery program offering a total hands-on experience for everyone. We offer patient encouragement and personal guidance. Classes are small, with a maximum of 12 students per class. Students receive both group and individual instruction at their own levels. A wide variety of ceramic techniques are taught: shaping clay into pinch pots, designing and constructing slab projects, building unique coil vessels, clay decoration and glazing.
Classes will be taught by Roeper faculty member, TESSA STEIN. Ms. Stein graduated with a B.A. Degree in Ceramics from the Johannesburg College of Art in South Africa. For 30 years, she has been working as a ceramic artist and educator. She has traveled extensively, working as a production potter in various countries. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in South Africa, Canada and the United States. She has an extensive teaching background, and the majority of her teaching experience has been as a resident artist in over 50 schools. Before joining the Roeper faculty in 2009, she worked in the Education Department at the D.I.A., VSA Arts of Michigan and was Education Director at Paint Creek Center for the Arts.
